However, just being a mother-in-law isn't going to make her a lock for the title."Yes, you can, but that doesn't mean she's automatically qualified," said Kelly Collins, one of the founders of the Midwest Haunters Convention. "We get asked that all the time: 'Hey, can I nominate my mother-in-law?' Well, just because she's your mother-in-law doesn't mean she's scary."And they say, 'You don't know my mother-in-law.' "The judges for the convention, taking place this weekend at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Columbus, are looking for a truly frightening female, someone like Kelly Collins' wife Neena or even Sharon Bever's husband Scott. In the topsy-turvy world of people who love to scare people, gender takes a back seat to terrifying."The scariest woman doesn't necessarily have to be a woman," Kelly Collins said. "It has to be a female character.""It's the scariest female character," said Barry A. Schieferstein, coordinator of vendors and speakers at the July 14-16 convention for haunted attraction producers, actors and designers.Having firmly wrested Halloween from the sticky-fingered grasp of children, adults in the haunted attraction business now gather for regional and even national events to keep abreast of the latest trends in terror."It's a major industry," said Anita "Neena" Collins, Kelly Collins' bride and the very first "Scariest Woman in the Midwest."While that's not the sort of distinction to which most women aspire, Neena Collins wears the crown proudly."Once a queen always a queen, in my book," she said. The Midwest Haunters Convention is now entering its third year. Lewis Center residents Kelly and Neena Collins, along with Upper Arlington-area residents Barry and Kathy Schieferstein, launched the event to bring regional haunted attraction devotees and vendors together for a weekend of fun and fright. The inaugural convention was held at Cooper Stadium, where Kelly Collins is consultant and designer for Terror Park. It moved to the Radisson Hotel in Worthington last year, and now is occupying even more space at the downtown accommodations."I have performed in haunted houses all over the country," Kelly Collins said. "I've been doing this for 22 years."A marketing supervisor with White Castle, Collins traces his involvement in the haunted attractions industry to his high school days and a visit to a Jaycees haunted house.Characters in rubber masks made a lasting impression on the young man."Back then they were very scary," Collins said. "That doesn't scare people anymore, because they've been so desensitized."They're used to seeing all these new computer graphics and animatronics and animations that it takes more than that."Hence, events like the convention, which will have about 42 different vendors at 55 booths and a wide array of workshops for people who produce or act or are otherwise involved in the "haunt" industry. More than 30 hours of classes will be offered over the weekend in such areas as acting, makeup, props, the haunt business and haunt design.Film actor and producer Chuck Williams, whose credits include such titles as 1994's "Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter" and 2001's "The Vampire Hunters Club," will be the master of ceremonies for this weekend's convention.Haunted attractions actors, according to Kelly Collins, are a lot like Civil War reenactors. Sort of."We're doing the same thing," he said. "It's just that when we entertain people, we like to frighten people and intimidate them."Education is the main purpose behind events like the Midwest Haunters Convention, according to producer Barry Schieferstein, who runs the Radio Shack outlet store in Groveport."My opinion is if we grow the industry it helps everyone," he said. The concept of a "Scariest Woman" contest dates to the convention's origins."We just thought, why not do a spoof on a pageant that, instead of finding the most beautiful woman in the Midwest or the sexiest woman in the Midwest, let's find the scariest woman," Collins said.Neena Collins entered the initial convention in 2003 as the reigning queen of scream. A panel of judges from various aspects of the industry then handed that honor to Bexley-area resident Scott S. Bever, unaware their scariest woman choice was actually a man.By day a mild-mannered management analyst with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Bever has an alter ego, the very frightening character of "Lizzie," as in Borden, as in "took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41."At 6 feet 2 inches tall and 275 pounds, Bever makes the most of his bloody-handed female character."She's intimidating," he said. "She truly is."The scariest woman title was taken from Ohio last year by Ann Marie Gavinski of Waukesha, Wis. She and her Halloween-loving husband Tom annually transform their backyard into a 2,000-square-foot haunted attraction with 15 actors in the cast."I think I got this just so everywhere we go my husband can say, 'Have you met my wife? She's the scariest woman in the Midwest,' " Ann Marie Gavinski said. "I can't tell you how many times I've heard that line in the past year. I don't think it's going away, even after I crown the new scariest woman."For me, it's always been about the scream."People, according to convention organizers and participants, love to be frightened."That is the thrill," Gavinski said. "What we can put into a haunted house are some of your fears and we're going to play on those fears, but it's not happening in real life so it's a safe place to act those out.""It's exciting," Neena Collins said. "It's like being in a scary movie or an amusement park where the anticipation builds and you don't know what's going to happen, but you're safe. It's just a thrill. It really is thrilling.""I think they enjoy the adrenaline rush," Bever said. "I think that's the big thing behind the scare. If you can give a good scare, you did your job as far as people coming to your haunt and paying good money to go through.""It's entertainment," Kelly Collins said. "We've talked to psychiatrists about this. I've sat in on presentations. When you get scared, it releases endorphins. And after you're scared and you calm down, you feel good."And that's why a lot of people enjoy being scared -- because after the endorphins have been released and then they catch their breath and you look and you've got all 10 fingers and all your toes and you managed to escape the chain saw guy and you're not hurt anywhere, you say, 'Ahh!' The young boy supposedly haunts what was once a women's dormitory. After escaping from the local orphanage, two girls hid the boy on a window ledge in the winter during a room check. When they returned more than an hour later, the only sign of him were footprints and he was nowhere to be found. The boy has been seen by past occupants of the room with blue lips as if he was frozen in the winter weather. The window where he had been locked out is known to fly open during storms, even while locked.Ms. Bohmer said that while she believes in ghosts, the true benefit of the stories is allowing kids to become interested in history."Ghost stories entice kids to want to learn more about the history of where the stories come from," she said.Mark Nesbitt, owner of Ghosts of Gettysburg, is the author of the six-book series, "Ghosts of Gettysburg."Mr. Nesbitt, who has been studying the town for more than 40 years, opened the tours in 1994 after releasing the first two books of the series. The company now offers several tours based on Mr. Nesbitt's books, including a bus and train tour that takes visitors outside of Gettysburg to places such as Hospital Woods and Lady Farm.Throughout the years he has collected about 1,000 stories of paranormal experiences from others and has had some of his own. In the past 10 years, Mr. Nesbitt has been doing ghost investigations with different paranormal investigation groups. Before writing the "Ghosts of Gettysburg" series, Mr. Nesbitt spent five years as a ranger historian working for the National Park Service in Gettysburg. He has been featured on "Unsolved Mysteries," A&E and on the Travel Channel, where he was seen picking up electronic voice phenomena, sounds that are recorded without being heard at the time of the recording."You get so into the investigation you don't even think about being scared," Mr. Nesbitt said.Mr. Nesbitt recorded the events that happened to two of his friends who were working in the old Dorm Hall, currently the administraBoscovtion building at Gettysburg College. In 1980, two women got on an elevator to leave and it bypassed their stop, taking them to the basement of the building, which served as a hospital during the battle of Gettysburg. When the door opened in front of them, there was a scene from a Civil War-era hospital, complete with a bloody surgeon operating on patients.Frightened, the two women, who assumed it was a prank being played by one of the fraternities, left to retrieve a guard. When they returned to the basement with the guard, they found nothing."I am a skeptic," Mr. Nesbitt said. "I don't publish anything unless I believe the person actually experienced the event."Considered one of the more haunted houses on the Ghosts of Gettysburg tour is Twin Sycamores on Baltimore Street, where a group saw three ghosts on a tour two years ago, on July 6.Interest grows, belief perhaps notMore than a dozen ghost tours are offered in Gettysburg. Mr. Nesbitt believes he knows why the interest in the tours has increased."The phenomena has grown because people are becoming more aware and will come forward to share their experiences they know others have witnessed," he said. "Or many people are being duped."Not all of the story tellers actually believe in the stories they tell. Van Richards has been an innkeeper at Battlefield Bed and Breakfast the past two years. On Friday nights, the inn offers ghost stories as part of guests' room package. While Mr. Richards doesn't believe in the stories himself, he shares tales of experiences from past guests and historical stories passed down through time. He said he doesn't believe any of them really happened.Yet, the inn gets groups as large as 25 each Friday night waiting to be scared by the tales of ghosts haunting the inn at 2264 Emmitsburg Road. Mr. Richards said ghost stories were popular in the 1860s as a form of entertainment."People still like that form of entertainment whether they believe in it or not," he said. The art of storytellingThe Farnsworth House has been rated one of the most haunted inns in the country by A&E and the Travel Channel. It was even named one of the spookiest places to eat by the Food Network.A tour by the Farnsworth House Mourning Theatre and Ghost Walks, headquartered at 401 Baltimore St., takes guests to the attic of the house, where they hear of the ghost known as Jeremy. The young boy, who was killed when trampled by horses pulling a carriage, is known to roam the rooms of the Farnsworth House, stealing guests' belongings and returning them in exchange for toys, said Dave Dossey, a tour guide for Farnsworth Walking Tours for three years. The tour takes guests past the famous home where Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed during the battle of Gettysburg, was killed by a stray bullet while making bread. It is said that her father's ghost roams the house as an angry spirit because he was not allowed to attend his daughter's burial. To prepare for the tours Mr. Dossey studied the history of the battle at Gettysburg, especially the area on Baltimore Street where the Union and Confederate armies met. He said while some of the stories have been documented, others come from legend and folklore."The tours are about making the stories come to life," Mr. Dossey said.

The Frederick News-Post

technorati tags:most, haunted, living, tv, gordon, smith, yvette, fielding

Wizard Day for witches - David Wells, Most Haunted

WIZARD DAY FOR WITCHESHUNDREDS of witches and pagan worshippers are gathering today. They are taking part in Witchfest Scotland - a drive to go public about their beliefs. The event, at the Arches, in Argyle Street, Glasgow, sees David Wells, from TV's Most Haunted, among the guest speakers.Pauline Reid, 33, head of a coven in the city's Langside, said: "We're witches and proud of it. Ghost-hunting researchers encounter entities that seem to have some kind of post-life trauma. Ghosts have died cruel or shocking deaths, witnessed terrible things before they died, lost something very dear to them which they still cling to after death.

Perhaps the film, Ghost, with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, is not a perfect paradigm of what Ghosts really are, but it does have some things in common with the above definition. Swayze, like the Ghosts we speak of, is hanging around because of the cruel manner of its death and that it could bring some kind of danger to his girlfriend. Patrick’s lingering on Earth is a temporary phenomenon, often due to trauma or to hanging onto one’s surroundings. Some accounts of Ghosts would say that Ghosts are often just fragments of better, more whole personalities that have not passed on to other dimensions of the Afterlife.

The film Ghost may be flawed in many ways, but perhaps it can give us some framework for addressing some of the questions about the reality and behavior of Ghosts as addressed through historical anecdote, contemporary reports, parapsychological studies and ghost-hunting. For instance, in the film, Swayze learns to influence matter from a strange, half-insane ghost on a subway.

In fact, can Ghosts hurt you or actually touch you? I would say that many people believe that Ghosts can touch you and some say they can hurt you and even kill you. Many people report a ghostly touch. For instance, Molly Stewart, licensed with the International Ghost Hunters Society, reports that Ghosts have reportedly pulled the hair of guests on her Salem, Massachusetts tour. Ghosts pull the hair In China, for instance, Ghosts killed by drowning are said to kill people in order to prevent them from reincarnating.

In general, Ghosts seems to be making contact because they are “stuck” in some pattern, expressing their pain or fear- or sometimes. Like Swayze as he reaches out to Moore in the film, Ghosts actually want to tell us something, something as strange as how they were killed or to assure us about something. But not everyone has the same degree of sensitivity to them.

It would seem, if you believe Sylvia Browne, that disembodied spirits, including releatives, are very close to this world. And, they attempt contact a lot, but we do not recognize it. In other, more tribal, shamanistic cultures that contact is perhaps more frequent and expected but these cultures don’t necessarily keep written records in any quantity so it may be difficult to know.

Perhaps with our EMF and “white noise” machines, science is coming closer to some kind of answer about contacting Ghosts? Why hasn’t it found that answer yet? Well, looking for Ghosts might be compared to wanting to study sea creatures at a certain depth, but not having the science of submersibles developed enough to be able to go there securely and stay long enough to take photographs. The Ghosts are there but we don’t have the technology.

Ghosts - Paranormal Secrets - Ghosts

Dowsing

Dowsing, sometimes associated with the word, radioesthesia, is the use of a special instrument to identify or find an object or condition in physical matter. Dowsing is generally associated with finding oil, water or precious metals, but sometimes an object that is missing. To this end, various Dowsing instruments are used- on either a map, a picture or an actual physical location. Dowsing is probably a very ancient practice. There is evidence that Dowsing goes back as far as ancient Egypt and ancient China. Dowsing was reportedly used to find coal during the Middle Ages.

The most popular tools for Dowsing are the “wishing rods,” which are often made out of metal these days but sometimes out of wood, as was common in the past- and the pendulum.

Dowsing, in the fast, generally used, wood. Popular woods that were used for Dowsing were hazel branches, generally forked, along with beech, alder and apple. Nowadays, as before, the Dowsing rods, when used, are held in an L-shape with discovery being made when the rods cross each other. Pendulums used for Dowsing are simply generally string weighted with some type of crystal or other type of weight.

Sir William Barrett, a physics professor at the Royal College of Science in Dublin at the end of the century, was extremely skeptical of Dowsing until he became familiar with a dowser named John Mullins, who was hired by the Waterford Bacon Factory to locate underground streams of water. The small forked stick he used for Dowsing almost immediately bore more fruit than the work of various professional geologists who had failed to identify the water source. Later on, Barrett would be one of the main founders of the British Society for Psychical Research and publish the results of his research on Dowsing in the Society’s Proceedings.

Classic research on Dowsing was conducted and reported by Dr. Solco W. Tromp, a Dutch professor of geology, who was the director of the Bioclimatological Center in London. His chief book related to parapsychological research was Psychical Physics, a work speaking of the influence of various types of electrical and magnetic field on living organisms. It included the effects of these types of fields on dowsers, which he himself tested in the laboratory. To this end, used a galvanometer with a wooden ring and a coil of wire to create a magnetic field. He found that, although dowsers could not really determine the intensity of the field, they could detect changes in it. He also found that Dowsing in the field, using a pendulum for quicker results, could successfully enable to dowser to detect different types of magnetic anomalies

Theories of Dowsing vary, but it is often supposed that the Dowsing instrument conveys to the psyche of the dowser a subtle energy detected around the object in question. So a field of energy, perhaps still unknown to modern science, is postulated to be the cause of the phenomenon. For those interested, there is still an American and a British Society of Dowsers. Their addresses are: The British Society of Dowsers, Sycamore College, Tamley Lane, Hastingleigh, Ashford, Kent, TN25 5HW, England and The American Society of Dowsers, Inc., Danville, Vermont, 05828.

For more information, visit
Dowsing - Most Haunted
Dowsing - Parnormal Secrets

Get the latest on Most Haunted by clicking here!

After Life find out more about Most Haunted

In fundamentalist Christian theology, which has permeated the cultural milieus of the Afterlife for Western culture, there is a heaven and a hell. Life in these realms of the Afterlife, according to this theology, is fundamentally based on a repentance of sins and a belief in Jesus Christ. Much of our thoughts about Heaven and Hell in the Afterlife may be influenced by Dante’s epic poem The Divine Comedy, which also postulated a Purgatory, where souls are tormented on a temporary basis before they can enter the Heavenly Kingdom. In Purgatory, souls are purified en route to their progression towards an Afterlife in Heaven. Many Near Death Experiences and the experiences of Mediums and Psychics seem to deny this interpretation.

A more startling rendition of the Afterlife, which claimed to have the underpinnings of reality, was Emmanuel Swedenborg’s account of his own personal visitations to these realms in Heaven and Hell in its Wonders. This book formed the basis of the Swedenborgian Church which postulated its teachings on the alleged experiences of its founder/scientist in the Afterlife.

In ancient Judaism, the Afterlife was not very precisely described in what we now call the Old Testament. It was called Sheol. After Christianity became the pivotal religion in the West, the concept of the became rather more complex and important. In Christianity, man’s entire purpose and destiny lies in the disposition of his Afterlife experience. Hell and its torments became quite explicit in the Middle Ages, set against the detailed joys and splendor of an Afterlife in the Heavenly Kingdom with Jesus.

Until fairly recently, there has been no way to actually test or explore the reality of the Afterlife. But, with the publication of Dr. Raymond Moody’s book, Life After Life, based on NDE or Near Death Experiences, there have been ample accounts and some studies of people claiming to have entered other dimensions, with other laws and conditions, that have some kind of consistency on a statistical level. The Near Death protocol described by Moody initially involves events like floating above one’s actual body until, at some point, the subject leaves this realm and passes through a tunnel, encounters and is greeted by friends or relatives, encounters a Higher Spirit, experiences a Life Review, where the subject re-experiences their entire life. Some get a taste of what these higher realms are like before returning to this world.

One famous NDE and Afterlife experience involves a CIA agent and assassin named Dannion Brinkley who, at the height of his covert activities, was struck by lightening in his home. Following this event, Brinkley allegedly died, passing onto another realm in the Afterlife, during which his physical body was actually placed in the Morgue, following an unsuccessful attempt to revive him. Brinkley eventually became one of Moody’s key students, having gained certain special gifts from the Afterlife. The first gift from the Afterlife, according to Brinkley and Moody, was the development of a telepathic rapport with other people, involving the recognition of intimate details of their lives. The second one was knowledge of the future, derived by glimpsing inside certain boxes he was shown in the Afterlife. Another gift was his obtaining an intimate glimpse of the Afterlife, including a visit to its inhabitants and some of its holy buildings.

After Life - Paranormal Secrets

Channelling

Channelling is a new name for an ancient practice. Many people believe that life continues after death and that the spirits of the departed can be contacted and spoken with. The messages they receive are reputedly from dead people, guides, or angels.

It isn’t known who coined the term channelling. However, instead of focusing on contacting departed loved ones, channellers often contact guides, masters, aliens, or Archangels. Many mediums channel the same entity or entities repeatedly.

The theory is that the soul or spirit of the medium is pushed aside or leaves the body. This makes room for the other energy to enter and use the body for a period. The shift of energy can take seconds or minutes. Often as the shift begins, the body may shake or quiver.

Often the chaneller is unaware of what is happening until after they come out of their trance. This process is known as unconscious channeling. Chanelling is not the same as possession, where a person’s body is taken over by an evil spirit. However, just over the horizon and when one has time to reflect and think, there is an element of mystery on life’s fringes with phenomena from Aliens and Angels to Yeties and Zombies.

Most of us go through life on a practical down to earth basis and then something intrudes on us and makes us think. Maybe we have a premonition which comes true or an out of the body experience. We hear of a haunted house or the activities of a poltergeist; maybe it is mediumship and automatic writing and many other phenomena besides. Now, there is no doubt that these things happen and they may make us feel somewhat uneasy; there may be a hint of malice or, as in near death experiences, a tremendous sense of delight. And all this confirms that beyond the everyday experience of the senses there is that extra unknown ‘something’ lurking on the horizon which maybe either neutral, or good or evil.

Let’s take coincidence. Coincidences in fact are really quite common and it is probably rare to come across anyone who has not experienced a coincidence of some sort. Life is full of connections and intersections but it is only when we are aware of these intersections that they are meaningful. Coincidences usually come out of the blue with the consequences of making one think and ponder whether they have an ulterior meaning or purpose or are they just a coincidence and nothing more?

Here are two coincidences from my own life. For over six months I had been helping a lad preparing for his GCSE Maths. We formed a good relationship and he duly acquired the grade he needed. About a year later I was walking through a distant country park in connection with a social outing and I had raced on ahead until in the distance I saw a young man and his girl in which I called out to enquire whether they had passed a group of ladies – yes, they had they replied, and we immediately discovered our previous relationship and exclaimed: ‘what a coincidence!’ This is minor and instances like this happen to people all the time.

Here now is a more amazing coincidence. My wife and I are regular ramblers and recently we got to know a certain family quite well from the walks. Well one month we had to break off our regular rambling routine and flew out to Australia for a five week tour of the country. Now our last leg before flying back was a visit to Perth and as we were exploring the city centre a voice called out showing recognition; it was the family we knew from our home rambles.

All this brings us to ‘meaning’. Take dowsing. Dowsing is best known as the means to find underground water, but it can also be used to find metals, lost objects and even lost people using maps. Dowsing is a real ability possessed by some people who can detect certain items or energies without using the normal five senses.

So there is something beyond our five senses and the gift of premonition is a further one of these abilities which some people have but are often too embarrassed to admit.

Nobody can know how frequent premonitions are or how many are reported to other people, other organisations, or the media at large. After a major event, many people claim that they foresaw it although some may be hoaxing and others may be deceiving themselves, but the overwhelming evidence for premonitions is that they do happen. A well known and impressive case is that of the primary school at Aberfan in Wales. Nine year old Eryl Jones attended the Pantglas school in the mining village of Aberfan. On 20th October 1967 Eryl told her mother that she had dreamed about her school but that: “there was no school there - something black had come down all over it.” The next day the school was buried by the coal tip which towered above the village. Over a 100 children and adults died including Eryl Jones. This disaster was foretold by many and London psychiatrist John Barker concluded that 60 of the claimed premonitions were genuine.

Coincidences give us that ability to think and wonder; dowsing and premonitions show that there is a further sense and ability.

But what about ghosts, poltergeists and apparitions? These are things which are seen and observed and the evidence for their existence is overwhelming. Of all paranormal experiences, ghosts or apparitions are probably the most reported phenomena: from the ghostly goings on at Borley Rectory in Suffolk – reputedly the most haunted house in Britain at one time – to crisis apparitions and presumed visions of the Virgin Mary which regularly pop up all over the world.

Then there are cases of people who hear: ‘voices inside their heads.’ A good percentage of these of course are people with a mental illness such as schizophrenia. However, perfectly normal, well balanced people from all walks of life can hear voices in their heads. The problem is what is the origin of these voices; to many they are simply delusions with no consequence or meaning at all. However, it is a fact that many people do hear voices and they do have a meaning or sometimes a message. Many years ago David, a young man of 42, had a ‘near death experience’ following a heart attack and a stroke which led to brain damage and to being partially sighted. On regaining much of his health he insisted to his wife, that because of his experiences in another dimension, his whole way of life had to change and that their house had to be sold; this of course did not go down well with the rest of his family. However, David’s wife Jill kept getting a voice in her head which repeatedly said: “give up” with regard to the house. “It was so clear and insistent that I decided I’d be a fool to ignore it.’said Jill.

But of course one can go on and tell about UFOs, crop circles, phantom hitchhikers, psychic surgery, firewalking etc. so where does this all lead us?

What it does show is that life need never be mundane and boring but there is that spark of mystery which can crop up in anybody’s life. Depending on our attitude we can either forget and bury our experiences, or enquire into them thus discovering how interesting the world really is; whether we have been abducted by aliens or experience an unusual coincidence, strangeness is all around us.

Prayer

Prayer is a generally considered to be a form of communion with a Higher Presence or God. However, in certain religions, Prayer is offered to enlightened or spiritual beings such as certain Catholic or Muslim saints. Prayer is sometimes spoken of being divided into two major categories- the Prayer of petition and the Prayer of union. In the Prayer of petition, the supplicant and the object of Prayer are separated and the object of the Prayer is for the supplicant to ask something of the object of Prayer. In the Prayer of union, the object is to blur the distinction between the identity of the one who prays and the object of Prayer. It is an attempt to obtain a unitive state with the Divine Presences, to become one with God.

Believe it or not, Prayer has been subjected to the rigors of scientific investigation. One researcher, both a pastor and a chemical engineer, the Reverend Franklin Loehr, chronicled the effect of his Prayer on seeds and seedlings. The fortunate recipients of his Prayers sprouted faster, producing sturdier plants. See our article on Psychic Healing for the effects of the Laying on of Hands on water used to irrigate seeds by researcher, Bernard Grad.

One scientific study took place with patients in a Coronary Care Unit in the San Francisco Medical Center. The purpose of the study was to see the effect of Prayer by an outside, intercessory group, in this case, Christians, on approximately one half of 393 patients chosen for this study. The balance of the patients, acting as a control group, were not subjected to intercessory Prayer. The results were that the group which was targeted for intercessory Prayer required less antibiotics, diuretics and ventilatory aid than the control group in a statistically significant way.

In another similar, but larger study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, a similar result was found. The study, conducted by researchers at Kansas City's Mid-America Heart Institute at St. Luke's Hospital involved 990 patients with severe, life-threatening coronary disorders. From this group, 524 were extracted randomly to be a control group. The remain group of 466 patients were targeted for intercessory Prayer by five Prayer group members. In this case, neither doctors nor patients knew that the experiment was taking place nor that a certain group of patients were prayed for a total of 28 days. At the end, 35 different medical measurements were used to calibrate the difference between the two groups, the result weighing dramatically in favor of those targeted by the Prayer group. The comparison between the two groups involved looking whether patients remained on respirators or required pacemakers, type and frequency of taking specific medications, length of stay in the hospital, speed of recovery and whether they lived or died.

Psychic Healing

Psychic Healing defines a realm of activity in which the healer, who is generally not a medical professional of any sort, but a lay person, communicates to the recipient, the ill or wounded, a type of energy which aids in the curing of a condition or a disease. The energy used in Psychic Healing has not yet been recognized by traditional science.

Psychic Healing is a very controversial subject in the modern world, but the practice is very ancient. Probably the most common type of Psychic Healing practiced today is through shamanistic healers of various cultures. Whether Native American, South American, Aborigine, or New Guinea, the shamanistic cultures involve a specially trained individual who communicates a healing power to the subject, sometimes through special objects or amulets and sometimes through the intervention of spirits, who themselves perform feats of Psychic Healing.

In the modern world and in contemporary cultures, much of Psychic Healing can be traced back to Antoine Mesmer, who believed in a theory of “animal magnetism” by which subjects could be infused with a special energy through a series of passes. Often, Antoine Mesmer is credited with the invention of hypnosis, but Mesmer’s theory is much different than the current theory of hypnosis. The current theory is based on the idea that hypnotic phenomena can basically be traced to suggestion, the influence of a thought, normally transmitted verbally by a hypnotist to his subject contradicts the theoretical concept of Psychic Healing promoted by Messer.

There have actually been numerous attempts to prove that Psychic Healing can occur. Among the most famous have been the experiments of Bernard Grad, a Canadian biologist and physiologist working out McGill University. In his experiments, he compared the rapidity of healing wounded rats through an allopathic medical protocol to the rapidity of healing of these same rats by healers, who worked on them through the laying on of hands.

In order to verify Psychic Healing and the efficacy of these healers, who could have actually imparted some chemical to the rats through their hands instead of truly using Psychic Healing energy, the healers were asked to “treat” water that were contained in vials- by placing their hands around the vials, but not actually in the water. The water was then used to hydrate one set of seeds, while another set remained in a control group which was not exposed to so-called Psychic Healing energy. The seeds irrigated by the water treated by the healers grew faster and were sturdier than the seeds in the control group which were not exposed to Psychic Healing energy.

Another type of experiment in Psychic Healing was conducted by a nurse and teacher at New York University, a lady named Dolores Krieger, indicated that nurses who did a laying on of a hands on real patients managed to raise their hemoglobin values as opposed to nurses who just talked to or spent time with the patients.

Is there any connection between Psychic Healing and spiritual practices? One of the most famous scientists who studied Psychic Healing was Lawrence LeShan, who developed a protocol to induce Psychic Healing. LeShan is a trained psychological therapist who encourages a transmission of energy to his subjects based on meditation.

Telepathy

Telepathy is the power of one to send thoughts from one person to another without the intervening bother of speech or the written word. It is mind-to-mind communication, which some parapsychologists say transcends the normal bounds of space and time. In other words, Telepathy is instantaneous, some even saying faster than the speed of light. “Telepathy” comes from the Greek components, tele meaning “distant: and patheia meaning “feeling” or “perception.” Telepathy is one of the commonly described paranormal powers, which include clairvoyance, precognition and psychokinesis.

The term, Telepathy, was coined in a ground-breaking parapsychological work called Phantasms of the Living by Edmund Gurney, Frederick Myers and Frank Podmore, members of the British Society for Psychical Research. This study contained some anecdotal cases of Telepathy.

Probably the first public attempt to demonstrate the existence of Telepathy was undertaken by J. B. Rhine at Duke University with the use of his famous ESP cards, created by Karl Zener, a psychologist colleague of Rhine. The 25 card deck embodied the symbols of a star, a wave, a cross, a star and a circle and was shuffled by a machine, creating one of the earliest tools for mathematical research into the existence of Telepathy and ESP.

In 1930, the famous author and muckraker, Upton Sinclair, published a work about Telepathy called Mental Radio, a work which chronicled experiments between himself, his friends and his wife, who seemed to be able to receive mental impressions of sketches made dozens of miles away through Telepathy. Sinclair, whose great classic, The Jungle, created reforms in the Meat Packing industry, had the kind of prestige to awaken many people to the hypothesis of Telepathy in every day life.

In the 1960’s, a more ambitious program to research Telepathy was undertaken by Dr. Stanley Krippner and Montaque Ullman in the Dream Laboratory in Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Ullman and Krippner wanted more selective involvement between the sender and the recipient and chose specific images which were transmitted by the sender to the receiver in a dream state through Telepathy. The subject’s dream state condition was verified by Rapid Eye Movements. Krippner and Ullman concluded that the subjects' dreams did often contain the transmitted images and there was a positive result, indicating the possibility of Telepathy.

Another set of promising experiments in Telepathy began in the 1980’s when the Ganzfield experiments led to sensory deprivation being a component in the testing of a transmission between a sender and a receiver. Perhaps these experiments in Telepathy, whose value has been debated, will show more clearly the conditions under which telepathic transmission could take place. In the meantime, scientists, utilizing quantum mechanics and string theory are trying to evolve new concepts to be able to explain Telepathy.

A true ghost story

I've always liked this house. It is a large older home, three full floors, and a basement. It's full of the beautiful oak woodwork that seems to be lost in these days of rapid home building. I came occasionally to visit my boss's daughter when she lived here, and it was then that I gained an appreciation for the place.

Fast-forward fifteen years. A divorce for me, and nowhere to live. The house was empty and my boss offered me the opportunity to stay here until I got back on my feet. I was very excited, this big beautiful place with all this antique furniture all to myself! It hadn't had a good clean for a while and I came over, arms loaded with cleaning supplies and got busy. I was scrubbing the kitchen down and got the distinct feeling I was not alone. I am no stranger to ghosts, I grew up with one in fact, and had heard at work various stories about the ghost who lived here, so the feeling wasn't uncomfortable and I continued with my work.

Towards evening, I was getting ready to leave, though I had some things to take up to the second floor for storage. The lights were on? I hadn't turned them on and assumed either my boss or her husband had left them on and thought nothing of it and went upstairs. The floor plan is a bit odd and after the steps, you make a turn to go down the hall to the rest of the rooms on the second floor. As I rounded the corner, the hairs went up on the back of my neck and I felt icy cold and was confronted with a feeling of malevolent anger like I have never experienced in my life. I could see nothing, but knew I had walked in to the ghost's 'lair'. I did what I had to up there and finally the feeling was too much even for me and I was running out the door when I left that evening.

Sitting outside in the car, my heart finally stopped racing to where I could think about what I had experienced. Ok....I had a ghost here. I knew this before. I can deal with this. After all, I have a background well steeped in 'other realms'. I am an astrologer, I read the tarot and have studied many different systems of magic. Why should I, of all people, be afraid of a ghost?

I wasn't able to get back to the house for about a week, having been out of town. My car had died on the return trip and I had to move in immediately on my return. I got my dog, went to the house, and crawled gratefully into one of the beds - I had forgotten about the ghost. But only for a moment. As I laid there, I could feel the presence in the room and obviously so could the dog, as my sweet natured shepherd stood up in bed, hackles up, fangs bared and emitted a long low growl I never thought possible to come out of her. I put my head under the covers, hoping it would go away, and spent a sleepless night listening to footsteps and bumps and bangs from the second floor.

There was much teasing when I went to work in the morning, "What's the matter, didn't you sleep well?", they chided. They had all known about the ghost and had been wondering how my first night was going to be, and my dishevelled look in the morning was the cause of a lot of laughter.

After I related my what happened, the stories of the ghost from my boss and her daughter began to come out, though nothing serious. Just general, harmless poltergeist activity. I started to feel a little better by the end of the day and my resolve renewed that this ghost wasn't going to get the better of me. I came home from work, all the kitchen cupboard doors were open, and the lights were on again on the second floor. Great. I tried to ignore it, turned the radio on, listened to the Christopher Freville show and got busy organising things.

There was a beautiful antique desk I wanted to use in my office space, and after I got it positioned, I went to open the drawers to put things away. None of them would open. I cursed and struggled with them and then gave up, figuring the desk was old, drawers sticking and went outside for a cigarette. When I came back in, all the drawers and doors on the desk were open. That got a chuckle out of me and I started to relax and see the humour of the situation. Until I went upstairs. The blasted lights were on again! I don't make very much money and the realisation that this would effect my electricity bill was not sitting well with me. I appealed to my email group for some help in dealing with 'The Spook' as I now had started calling him.

Confront him, I was told. Made a bit of sense when I thought about it. After all, here is this stranger in 'his' house, and I think I would be upset if the position was reversed? So I marched myself up to the first floor, introduced myself and threatened to remove the light bulbs if he kept playing with the switches. I told him I was living there and he had better get used to it, I would not bother him and I would appreciate him not bothering me as the house was big enough for both of us.

That seemed to work for a while. At night, there were still bumps and footsteps on the second floor, and occasionally he would open my cupboards, but I started to get used to his presence and it really didn't bother me so much anymore. In fact, now I wanted to try to make contact somehow, but with work and trying to be organised, I never really had time.

My kids didn't adjust so easily. They live with their father primarily and I only get them for long weekends because of the distance of our two cities. My daughter is very sensitive and I figured if anything, she would pick up on this ghost immediately and I didn't want them scared, so I went up beforehand and had another chat with the spook, hoping he could keep it quiet while they were there. My daughter walked in, took three steps, and declared the house was haunted. Great. I didn't let on what I knew though, knowing how young imaginations run away easily. My son, who has a very vivid imagination, and was now goaded on by his sister, refused to be upstairs by himself. I didn't push the issue and we all spent the night in the living room for their visits.

I knew I had to do some sort of cleansing and this 'spook', needed to be well and truly on his way, as my kids were too frightened. I tried to explain away all the bumps and footsteps, but they weren't buying my excuses. They were so scared they didn't even want to stay with me. My ex-husband came over during their next visit, and having heard all the talk about the ghost, marched up to the second floor and nosed around, making fun of the whole situation.

That night, my son, who decided he would stay with me instead of his grandma, came down with a miserable dose of flu. The 'spook', obviously upset by my ex's intrusion into his domain, was at his worst. Doors slammed upstairs and I have no clue WHAT he was using to make the bumping noises, but it was very loud. My son was terrified, and while I wanted to go up and have a late night chat with 'ghosty', my son didn't want me to leave his side. It was a very hard night.

In the morning, I gathered up my sage and sea salt and a crystal. My son was feeling a little better and my daughter was now back after breakfast with grandma. I felt it would be best if they were part of the cleansing, so they could also feel some power over the situation. I went through, cleansed the whole house, and tied a crystal on the one rafter on the second floor, though the crystal was more of benefit for my children, as they believed it was a protection barrier between worlds.

I am not sure if it worked. I haven't come home to any open cupboards. No more footsteps or banging. I haven't really felt his presence anywhere though I haven't been up to the second floor since the cleansing either. Maybe he has gone?

I hope he rests in peace.

Electro Magnetic Fields

OK, so you’re a ghost hunter, committed to hunting the ephemeral little beasties, but what would you do without your EMF meter?

Probably nothing. Because without your EMF meter, you couldn’t track anything, take digital pictures or record any cool EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). EMF meters- and even sometimes fairly simple compasses, help find “hot” areas, where the kind of anomaly you are looking for is generally hiding.

EMF stands for Electromagnetic Fields which can be detected with an EMF meter, which is currently favored by many as a component of their ghost-hunting toolkit. The EMF meter is an energy-tracking device.

It is sometimes recommended that two of the ghost hunters in the team carefully cover the site of the ghost hunt, one for anything and everything ordinary that could trigger an EMF reading- and the other to carefully check out all the “hot:” areas which you will try to capture on tape, film or digital media. It is important that all areas, normal or “hot” be accurately recorded by both of the ghost hunters handling the EMF meter. The careful recording of data also applies to the temperature readings as well as to EMF. Some experts recommend that ghost hunters look at the entire site as a grid- and that the entire grid needs to be measured with EMP, temperature and then thoroughly photographed. So the entire operation is handled like a professional archaeologist might handle it, except you are digging for something with a little EMF, not just some iron pots or a ceramic vase.

EMF meters, however, are not some strange, seldom-used device, but are commonly used by electricians to trace interference with their equipment and to be able to separate active electrical lines from non-active. The range of EMF sought by ghost hunters is very small, between 2-4 mgs. The serious ghost hunter must be able to distinguish between EMF created by natural or man-made sources from this ghostly objective. They also must be able to see what the device is trying to tell them so a fully lit digital display is often necessary. Ghost hunters often work in the dark.

Although the emanation of EMF from ghosts is a working hypothesis, the existence of EMF in the area of various electronic devices, like computers or cell phones, from electrical lines, large deposits or aggregations of metal is not. In order to pursue a rational ghost hunt, that is to exclude other sources of EMF, the ghost hunter should take readings around light poles and electrical outlets, as well as checking out fields that could be attributed to household appliances. When the ghost hunter has eliminated these concerns, he or she must be ready to check for sudden temperature drops. If he is taking photos, he wants to note the exact temperature and EMF reading for each photo.

Spiritual Guides

Derek Acorah has Sam. Who do you have?

There are many types of Spiritual Guides noted in the annals of the paranormal. Spiritual Guides may be there during a person’s entire lifetime- to help them with their vocation, to assist them in emergencies and to help them when they are ready to cross over into another dimension.

For instance, in certain spiritual traditions, Angels or Guardian angels are Spiritual Guides for selected individuals. Sometimes, it is said, Spiritual Guides are there for everyone, but most people are not aware of them. Angels, as Spiritual Guides, are often characterized as a separate species of creature, distinct from human.

Nowadays, perhaps partially as a result of the popular television show, Touched by an Angel, angel stories abound. Take the book by Lynn Valentine, Angels Everywhere: Miracles and Messengers. In her book, an invisible angel with a celestial voice assists a California woman after an audience, trumpeting out, “Be calm,” from the corner of a room. Another story speaks of a man who is counseled to skip a trip to the Oklahoma City Federal Building on the day of the 1995 bombing.

In the Spiritualist tradition, Spiritual Guides often take the form of “Spirit” Guides. In this case, these “Guides” may be a deceased family member of friend. In other cases, these Spiritual Guides may be refer to a Mediumistic control, who assists the Medium in contacting the spirits of the dead.

Eileen Garrett, one of the most renowned mediums of the last century no less than four Spiritual Guides. One was Uvani, an alleged Arab soldier from the 1500’s, was the first of the Spiritual Guides to make contact with her. Then, there was Abdul Latif, an Iranian physician from the 17th century, who assisted her with healing. Ramah and Tahotah, two other Spiritual Guides, showed up occasionally. To contact her Spiritual Guides, Garrett trained in Hewat McKenzie’s, founder of the British College of Psychic Science, a school for Mediumship.

In Shamanistic Traditions, like those of the Native American, Spiritual Guides may be certain animistic creatures, like bear or wolf, who aid the Shaman or Medicine Man but also are available in different levels of the tribal community. At one level, clans, small groups within the tribe, are often identified with certain creatures, who are their Spiritual Guides. So you have the Bear Clan, Bears as Spiritual Guides Bear might counsel the Clan Member on how to communicate with spirits, special healing powers or a teaching on how to leave the body.

In Channeling, Spiritual Guides can be the “Higher Self” of the channeller or even an advanced, highly evolved entity. One of the most well-known is J. Z. Knight. The entity she channels is called, Ramtha, who claims to have been a warrior/conqueror over 35,000 years ago on this planet. Spiritual Guides like Ramtha can lead their followers through a complex web of metaphysical assertions about reincarnation, higher dimensions, spiritual law and personal destiny.

In certain UFO circles, Spiritual Guides may claim to advanced beings from galactic civilizations. Billy Meier, who lives in Switzerland- and who has fathered a large, controversial UFO movement based, in part, on his wonderful photographs and abundant channeled information from the Pleiadians, is known for his frequent contacts with Semjase, a female Pleiadian, on of his Spiritual Guides, who advised him for decades.

The Most Haunted Secrets

Remote Viewing

Remote Viewing is a psychical activity developed by various countries, including the Soviets, and used as a term by the CIA and the US military to define a psychic intelligence gathering activity. The origins of Remote Viewing are somewhat shrouded by its clandestine origins and there are various accounts.

In Remote Viewing, the viewer is given a target which is placed in a sealed envelope. This target is not physically identified or viewed by the subject, who attempts, nonetheless to connect with the object, in a protocol that somewhat resembles hypnotic induction. Remote Viewing embodies a procedure that attempts to induce the subject into an altered state of consciousness. Once induced, the subject then allegedly separates from his body and attempts to connect with the target through the “astral plane” or “ether.” In many ways this, component of Remote Viewing is almost identical to astral projection, which is being used to acquire information for intelligence operations.

Remote Viewing is said to have begun in 1970 in a CIA-funded project. Shortly afterwards, research began at the Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, California. At this time, researchers Russel Targ and Harold Puthoff worked intensely with New York artist, Ingo Swann, who has recently written Superpowers of the Human BioMind, which is available on the Internet, which includes his purported true account of the history of Remote Viewing.

The next steps involved the formation of Detachment G, a group developed to study Remote Viewing; the initiation of INSCOM, an Army Major Command that governed Remote Viewing activities; the development of Gondola Wish, which attempted to monitor enemy uses of Remote Viewing, followed with the development of a working, intelligence collection group at Fort Meade called Grill Flame. In the late seventies, Grill Flame was integrated with SRI’s experimentation with Remote Viewing.
In 1981, Brigadier General Albert Stubblebine, III assumes Command of INSCOM. The next year, Ed Dames, an intelligence officer who would ultimately play a large role in the publicizing and privatization of Remote Viewing, begins to use Grill Flame as a source of intelligence information. That same year, Ingo Swann discovers new and more powerful Remote Viewing Protocols.

In 1983, INSCOM connects with the Monroe Institute and starts sending recruits to take the Gateway Course to learn the art of astral projection. (see article on Astral Projection). That same year, Ingo Swann begins to train four US Army officers and a female civilian in Remote Viewing. One of those Remote Viewing officers is Edward Dames, CPT. Later on, Dames will be one of the trainers of Mel Riley, Lyn Buchanan, Gabrielle Pettingell & Dave Morehouse.

After his military work in Remote Viewing is over, Dave Morehouse decides to break publicly expose the existence of Remote Viewing to the private sector, a feat for which he pays heavily as record in his book, Psychic Warrior (St. Martin’s Press, 1996). Although Morehouse is not particularly successful in these efforts at the time, it is Ed Dames who becomes the major spokesman for Remote Viewing through Art Bell’s late night radio show. Dames rather disturbing, apocalyptic visions eventually leading him to the nickname of Doctor Doom. Ed Dames actively teaches and explores Remote Viewing’s possibilities. Private companies like Britain’s Paranormal Management Systems and America’s PSI TEK continue to explore the Remote Viewing World.

Teresa Edwards is the author of "The Most Haunted Secrets" - the ultimate guide to how psychics communicate with spirit world. Bernstein took a twenty-nine year old American housewife into a Past Life Regression somewhat accidentally. What emerged from the Past Life Regression was Bridget (Bridey) Murphy, a lady who claimed to have lived in County Cork Ireland from 1798 to 1864. A unique character with an Irish accent and a history that predated the lifetime of the housewife became a reality to many through Past Life Regression.

In the 1970’2, another book that created a case for reincarnation was based on a Past Life Regression orchestrated by British psychiatrist, Arthur Guirdham, who claimed that his subject was a Cathar, a unique Western religious group, which believed in reincarnation but suffered from massive oppression and genocide from the Catholic Church. The Cathars and Reincarnation was rapidly followed by another book, We Are One Another, which made the case for six people near Bath, England, who believed they were also reincarnated Cathars.

Now, Past Life Regression has been institutionalized as a business and a form of therapy called PLT (Past-Life Therapy). Past Life Regression, as therapy, often discovered in a last ditch effort to deal with troubling phobias, sexual dysfunctions, uncontrollable anger, the standard stuff people go to therapists for.

Reincarnation, through Past Life Regression, is adopted as a working hypothesis by the therapist, but not necessarily as the bottom line reality of the process. In other words, even if a patient, through Past Life Regression, encounters certain information that relieves a symptom- say, being afraid of swimming because one has drowned in a former lifetime- neither the patient nor therapist needs to necessarily believe in this fact for the process to work.

Those who do believe in reincarnation would say that the patient cured by Past Life Regression has now been relieved of negative energy trapped in a past experience. The memory of an unpleasant experience, remembered through Past Life Regression, in theory of PLT, reminds one of the Scientological concept of the engram. If you can experience something painful sufficiently, you can relieve its effect on your life.

Although hypnosis was permitted in clinical treatment officially by the British and American in the 1950’s, its roots in therapy go back to Freud and Jung, who were associated together in their early years. The roots of psychoanalysis are clearly in hypnosis, though not in Past Life Regression, per se. The formation of The Association for Past Life Research and Therapy (APRT) created an enduring institution that gave Past Life Regression a working, revenue-producing justification.

A 1982 study by Helen Wambach claimed that 94 per cent of patients experiencing Past Life Regression did go back to an apparent past lifetime. Some of the therapists involved had experimented with death experiences in their Past Life Regression, their patients encountering various Near Death Experiences (NDE) described by Moody and others- like floating above the body, a white light with some also describing the tunnel experience (see our section on the Afterlife).

Most Haunted Secrets Discover the forbidden secrets that psychic mediums pray to God you will never learn

Table Tipping

Table tipping sounds a bit unusual................

Spiritualism began with what used to be called “typtology.” This is a method of spirit communication, in which spirits lift and tilt a table during a séance to produce rapping sounds. A number of people would sit around a table, hold hands, concentrate, and ask questions of the spirits. The spirits would then answer their questions through a series of raps. In order to question the spirits, sometimes a simple yes or no would be indicated by a prescribed number of knocks. In another method, letters of the alphabet were recited and when the letter that the spirit wanted to draw attention to was called, a rap could be heard.

As well as rapping, sometimes the table itself can be observed to move or vibrate. Table tipping seems to work best in near darkness. A group of people sit around a table and place their hands flat on its surface. They then will the table to move. In response, it rises, tilts, or rotates.
It is very easy to produce this effect by drawing back or pushing forward horizontally, which will cause the table to tilt up on two legs. There are numerous ways in which a table can be made to move and give the impression that it’s done through spirit intervention. Table tipping is often used in conjunction with a séance or ouija board. Because it’s so easy to fake the results, few people use this technique today, although it has been used on Most Haunted.

Yvette Fielding from Most Haunted

Do you ever watch Most Haunted? I absolutely love it. Yvette is such a scaredy cat, but she's what makes the show tick.

Here's a quick profile of Yvette:

Born on 23rd September 1968 in Stockport, Cheshire, Yvette Fielding presented the children's television show, Blue Peter from 1987 to 1992. She is the youngest ever person to present Blue Peter, being seventeen when she started. She got the job on Blue Peter after being on the television show Seaview, when she was thirteen. Since leaving Blue Peter in 1992, Yvette worked on shows such as What’s Up Doc? Heaven and Earth, City Hospital, Practical Parenting, Baby Baby, and Girls Talk. She went on to win the SOS Award for the Most Popular Woman on Television competing with Cilla Black, Victoria Wood and Kylie Minogue. She met her husband Karl Beattie when working on City Hospital, and they became a couple with Karl proposing to Yvette on TV. They were engaged within six weeks and married within six months. They married and have two children together, William and Mary. Yvette and Karl run the production company, Antix, which produces Most Haunted.

http://www.themosthaunted.com/index02mh.htm

East Sussex Paranormal Investigators

East Sussex Paranormal Investigators: "Hippodrome and other investigations
Hi all,

I hope those who are attending the Hippodrome are looking forward to it. I think this is a good question, but, owing to the wide range of paranormal powers and their potential derivation from different sources, the question probably needs to be broken down.

Even if Psychic Power exists, is it something to be sought directly? Some Yogis, for example, refer to a Psychic Power like Levitation or Telepathy as a “Siddhi” or “special power), a natural consequence of high meditative practice, but nothing to be sought for its own sake. Some quote Jesus’ saying, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all else will be granted to you.” One possible interpretation of this saying is that one should practice the prayer of union (see the article on prayer) and not seek special powers in themselves.

Other cultures, as diverse as Wicca or the Remote Viewing Community, or professional parapsychologists, regard Psychic Power as somehow inherent in one’s nature and often obtained quite naturally. They might point out that Psychic Power is a gift that often arrives uninvited altogether so why not seek it out and cultivate it. In fact, to those communities, Psychic Power really belongs to everyone from the moment it is born. It is very normal in a child unless society represses it. There is no secret to it, unless society represses it. The German poet, Goethe, called it “the Open Secret.” It’s there. You just have to latch onto it. In some communities, like ours, you can study it with psychics and mediums. In others, it might be a Medicine Man or an oracle.

I think it may be safe to say that objects of Psychic Power, including the world of ghosts and people who have passed on, reside in other dimension contiguous but different than this. Some people like the famous medium Eileen Garrett who wrote extensively about her experience with Psychic Power, seem to have a more natural sensitivity to these other worlds- like a person with Psychic Power who hears mysterious sounds or see strange things in the night while he is surrounded by friends, sadly lacking in Psychic Power, who hear and see nothing.

Does the common person have enough Psychic Power to learn to communicate with departed spirits? Most mediums seem to indicate, “yes.” And there is always the Ouiji board, a device readily available for those who wish to experiment with the Psychic Power of such communication. However, as do many others, the psychic, Alan Vaughan, does not believe that the Ouiji board may be such a simple or beneficial route to Psychic Power, no matter how convenient. His experiments with the Ouiji board led him to an experience of Possession that frustrated and confused him. The spirit finally left him, though the aid of another departed spirit, which seemed concerned about his fate. Alan was left puzzled with new Psychic Power but he warn of the dangers of capriciously dealing with the dead.

Psychic Power is not absolutely predictable. Sometimes, a psychic can somewhat control it or at least back off of it. Sometimes, it seems to be hard to turn it off. Some have done very well exercising their Psychic Power for themselves, in gambling or horses, but many have also warned of the consequences of Psychic Power this for self-serving purposes.

The 5 stages of Poltergeists

The word poltergeist comes from the German poltern, "to knock" and geist, "spirit." A poltergeist haunting usually consists of noises and objects moving about on their own. There may also be voices and smells. Usually these phenomena are witnessed by a number of people. Events tend to start slowly with small noises and small objects moving, and progress to more dramatic events like furniture flying around. The precise events differ greatly.
Usually, one particular person seems more affected than others and is always present when events occur. There is a tendency for this person to be a pre-pubescent girl, although boys or older girls are also occasionally involved.

Many believe that it is this person causing the activity, although they are not aware of it. They may be under some unusual amount of stress and when they are relived of the stress the problems stop.

Poltergeists are often very similar to other types of spirit hauntings. Usually, an investigator will try to rule out a poltergeist problem before starting an investigation into possible spirit activity.
There are 5 stages concerning poltergeist activity these are...

Stage 1. Attacking the senses
Hear noises
Hear footsteps
Feel cold spots
Smell strange smells

Stage 2. Attacking the senses more directly

Hear voices, crying, or laughing
See moving shadows that catch your eye
Feel cold breezes

Stage 3. More positive signs you have a poltergeist

Electrical appliances can turn on and off without explanation
Doors open and close without help
People feel as though they are been touched or grabbed by an unseen force
Voices will seem clearer and almost audible

Stage 4. The first level of danger

People feel stronger pushes and shoves
Objects disappear and reappear sometimes in different places
Objects can fly around

Stage 5. Final Stage, you can be in real danger

Pushes and shoves can now cause physical harm
Shouting

Auras

Not sure if you know much about auras? I'd love your fedback on this one.

An aura is a coloured outline, or set of outlines, that emanate from the surface of an object. The aura reflects a supernatural energy field or life force that permeates all things. Usually, auras are only visible to certain people. The specific colours in auras have specific meanings. Each colour can be connected with a note on the musical scale, a planet in the solar system. It is believed that the auras reflect the spiritual and physical state of a person. For example, a dark bluish to black area is seen around the chest of patients indicating lung cancer. Auras have two or more bands of colours. The number of bands varies, and there are many different systems for classifying these bands.

Aura has also been compared to synesthesia, where, sounds induce the ability to see colours. One theory behind auras is that individuals who see auras are experiencing a form of synesthesia in which colours are associated with people.

In 1908, Dr. Walter J. Kilner invented a method for viewing the human aura using coloured screens made of glass cells containing dicyanin dyes in alcohol solution. He made the discovery that most people can see auras when they change the focus of their eyes. These energy fields are documented by a form of photography called Kirlian photography.

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is the ability or power to see objects, and visions, or gain information regardless of its distance. The visions may be in the future, or sometimes in the past. Clairvoyance is a term used to refer to telepathy, Spiritualism, psychic research, second sight, prophetic visions, and dreams.

The word psychic relates to the mind or soul, rather than the physical and physiological. It’s commonly used when referring to the paranormal, occult, or supernatural.

Clairaudience is the gift of hearing conversations or information being transmitted vocally. The writer's hand forms the message, and the person is unaware of what will be written. It is often done in a trance state. Yvette has successfully used the technique in Most Haunted.

The writer takes a pencil and sheet of paper and positions their self as if about to write something. They then turn their attention elsewhere. Often, the writing is illegible. However, sometimes words, sentences or whole paragraphs appear. The message may be signed with a name other than that of the person writing, or shows a different handwriting to normal. The same process can be done with a computer keyboard. Some people know all the words one by one, as they are being written, or in phrases. Others have no idea of what is being written until they are finished, and they read the writing. As the process can be really fast it’s easiest to use single sheets of paper and number them as you go along.

Automatic writing is used as a form of channeling. It is also used in psychology as a means of gaining insight into the mind of the writer through their subconscious word choices. It has also been used in the Surrealist movement as a tool to enhance creativity.

Skeptics claim that any messages come from the mind of the person holding the pencil. Others believe that automatic writing is directed by a spirit and that it allows people to access other intelligences and entities for information and guidance. Some people have had bad experiences doing automatic writing and become convinced that an evil spirit or Satan is behind it.

Since the early days of Spiritualism, automatic writing has been accepted as a way to receive communications from the spirit world. Some believe that the spirits manipulate the pencil to communicate. Others believe that perhaps the spirits may also communicate by forming messages in the mind of the medium, which reproduce on the page. Mediums have claimed to produce messages from famous persons in history, deceased authors, and composers.
It’s possible to go beyond messages and include drawing, painting, and even music inspired by spirits. Sometimes, those with little or no artistic training feel compelled to paint or draw in distinctive styles. They feel guided by a spirit.
